Terms & refunds

The fine print, kept short.

These terms are an agreement between you and Aryan Patel, an individual based in India ("I", "me"), who makes and sells WinNotch. By installing or using WinNotch you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't install it, and contact me about a refund under section 5.

Last updated 6 October 2026 Ships with the app as EULA.md Questions: aryan.patelxcr7@gmail.com

1What you're buying

WinNotch is a utility for Windows 10 and 11 that adds a notch to the top of your screen. A purchase gives you a licence to use the software. It doesn't transfer ownership of it.

The price is shown on the website and at checkout. Dodo Payments, who sell WinNotch on my behalf, are the merchant of record for your order: they take the payment, add any sales tax that applies where you live (such as GST or VAT), and send your receipt and invoice.

2Your licence

When you've paid, I give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use WinNotch on Windows PCs that you own or control, for your own use. One purchase covers one person and up to 3 of your PCs at a time. Each PC uses its own licence key: the key in your receipt email is for your first PC, and you make a key for each of the others on the licence page of the WinNotch website, at dash.winnotch.xyz. To move WinNotch to another PC, deactivate it on one you no longer use in Settings → Licence, or free that PC or revoke its key on the licence page.

If you were given a gift or tester code instead of buying, redeeming it on the licence page gives you this same licence without payment. The licence page shows how many PCs it covers and, if it's for a set time, the day it ends; after that day its keys stop working. A code works once, and can't be sold or exchanged for money.

WinNotch asks for a licence key the first time it starts on each PC. It checks the key with Dodo Payments, who sell WinNotch on my behalf, when you activate it and about twice a day after that. It keeps working offline, but if it can't reach Dodo Payments for 30 days it asks you to connect before you carry on. A refunded purchase's keys stop working.

You may not:

  • sell, rent, share, give away or redistribute WinNotch or your copy of it;
  • share your licence keys, or publish your download link or licence for others to use;
  • remove or alter its copyright, licence or attribution notices;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except where the law allows this regardless of these terms;
  • use it to break the law or anyone else's rights.

WinNotch includes open-source components under their own licences. Those licences apply to those components, and nothing here limits your rights under them. They're listed in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md and the licenses folder that comes with the app.

3Updates and support

Your purchase includes every update to the major version you bought (for example, all 1.x releases). A future major version may be sold separately; if so, the version you bought keeps working.

WinNotch checks for new versions about every six hours and shows a warning in the notch when one is ready; Update now downloads and installs it. Occasionally an update is required, for example to fix a serious problem. WinNotch then stops working until you install it. Required updates are always free and never move you to a new major version.

Support is by email at aryan.patelxcr7@gmail.com. I aim to reply within 3 working days.

4Third-party services and trademarks

Some features show information from services I don't control:

  • Sports scores, fixtures, match details and team badges come from ESPN's public website feeds. WinNotch is an unofficial client: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by ESPN, Inc. or The Walt Disney Company, and those feeds are undocumented. They can change, become inaccurate, or stop working at any time, without notice, and sports features may stop working with them. Scores can be delayed or wrong; don't rely on them for betting or any decision that matters.
  • Currency rates come from the European Central Bank through Frankfurter.
  • Licence keys are issued and checked by Dodo Payments.
  • Updates are downloaded from WinNotch's public releases page on GitHub.
  • Coding-agent notices react to Claude Code and Codex running on your PC.
  • Now Playing reads the media session Windows provides for Spotify.

Claude is a trademark of Anthropic, PBC. Codex and OpenAI are trademarks of OpenAI. Spotify is a trademark of Spotify AB. ESPN is a trademark of ESPN, Inc. Team, club, league and competition names, crests and logos belong to their respective owners. These names and marks appear only to identify the service, agent or team being shown; WinNotch is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them.

I don't promise that any third-party service will remain available or keep working with WinNotch. If a service stops, the rest of WinNotch keeps working.

5Refunds

If WinNotch can't run on your PC, email me at aryan.patelxcr7@gmail.com within 7 days of purchase with your order details and what happens when you start it. I'll try to fix it with you first. If I can't get it running on a supported system (Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit), I'll refund you in full.

Apart from that, purchases aren't refundable: WinNotch is digital software, and the recordings and description on the website show what it does before you buy. This doesn't affect any rights you have under the consumer law where you live that can't be excluded by agreement.

If you bought through a payment platform, that platform may also process the refund and apply its own procedures.

Refunds are paid by Dodo Payments to your original payment method, and a refunded purchase's keys stop working. Free licences from gift or tester codes have nothing to refund.

6No warranty

WinNotch is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, I make no warranties beyond those in these terms, including about merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted or error-free operation, or the accuracy of any third-party information it shows. Keep your own backups of anything important; WinNotch can export a backup of its data from Settings.

7Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of WinNotch. My total liability for any claim about WinNotch is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for fraud.

8Your data

WinNotch keeps your tasks, notes and settings on your PC and has no account. To activate and check your licence it sends your licence key and your PC's name to Dodo Payments. When the licence is confirmed, it also sends the key, your PC's name and your WinNotch and Windows versions to the WinNotch website, so I can see which PC uses each key. The licence page at dash.winnotch.xyz uses the email of the Google account you sign in with to keep your licences and keys together. The privacy page on the website explains what it stores and when it goes online.

9Ending the licence

These terms apply as long as you use WinNotch. If you break them, your licence ends and you must stop using and delete WinNotch. A licence also ends if its purchase is refunded or the payment is reversed. Sections 4, 6, 7 and 10 continue after that.

10Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If a dispute can't be settled by talking to me first, the courts in Gujarat, India have jurisdiction. If you're a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protections and the right to go to court that your local law gives you.

11Changes

I may update these terms for future versions. The terms that came with the version you bought apply to that version.
