WinNotch 0.5.0 · For Windows 10 & 11

The notch Windows never had.

A small black island at the top of your screen. It shows what's happening right now, and opens into a whole workspace when you hover. Move away and it tucks itself back in.

Live activities

Everything that happens, in one tiny space.

Charging, headphones connecting, a muted mic, a finished download, the end of a focus session, a low battery. Each plays inside the same 204 × 38 shell, then gets out of your way.

Coding agents

Know the moment your agent needs you.

Connect Claude Code or Codex once from Settings. When a run finishes or stops to ask something, the notch tells you. Click it to jump straight back to the terminal it came from.

Now Playing

Your music, in its own colours.

Artwork and a live wave sit beside the clock while Spotify plays. The wave takes its colours from the album cover, so every record looks a little different.

Volume keys, redrawn.

Press a volume key and the notch shows a dotted level instead of the Windows pop-up. Drag the segments to set it exactly.

Notch modes

Three modes. One key.

Like a laptop's performance modes. Alt M slides the notch from Time to Stats to Large sport. Over a fullscreen game it keeps a mode of its own, and can stay out of the way entirely.

Sports

Every game you follow, beside the clock.

Follow your teams and their live scores sit in the notch: football, basketball, cricket and every other sport ESPN covers. When your side scores, the notch celebrates.

  1. Football
  2. Basketball
  3. Cricket

Your side scores. So does your notch.

A burst in the dotted face, then the scorer, the assist and the minute, once. Football can even show referee cards.

Every game opens up.

Click a game for its timeline, line-ups on a pitch and the match stats, without leaving the notch.

Copy words you can only see.

The workspace

Open it, and there's a whole desk up there.

Tasks, focus and notes. Your music, a shelf for files, live system graphs, launchers and a proper calculator. All one hover away, all the same size, no windows to manage.

Questions

Good to know.

Does my PC need a notch?

No. WinNotch draws its own island at the top of your primary display. It runs on Windows 10 version 2004 or newer and Windows 11, on x64 PCs.

Will it cover what I'm doing?

At rest it's 204 × 38 pixels, flush with the top edge. You can drag it anywhere along the top, size it from 90% to 110%, hold a click-through key to reach what's underneath, or let it hide for fullscreen video. It never appears in the taskbar or Alt+Tab.

What happens over fullscreen games?

Games keep a notch mode of their own. Press Alt M over a game to go from Hidden to Stats, Large sport and Time. Hidden keeps the notch out of the game completely.

How do coding-agent alerts work?

Settings adds a small hook to Claude Code and a notify command to Codex. When a run finishes or asks a question, the notch shows it. Clicking the notice brings back the window the agent is running in.

Does it work offline?

Tasks, notes, focus, search, the calculator and the shelf all work offline. Sports scores and currency refreshes need a connection.

Which music apps are supported?

Now Playing connects to the Spotify desktop app, both the standalone and Microsoft Store versions, through Windows media controls.

Is every hardware feature supported?

Some depend on your PC. Brightness works on supported internal displays. Bluetooth battery, GPU usage and temperatures depend on your devices and drivers; WinNotch shows "unavailable" rather than guessing.

How do I buy it?

The price is $5 USD, once. Checkout isn't open yet, so this site doesn't take payments. The licence and refund terms are on Terms & refunds.

How many PCs can I use it on?

Up to three of your own. Each PC uses its own licence key: the key in your receipt email is for the first, and you make a key for each of the others on your licence page, where you sign in with the same Google account you bought with. You can free a PC there and use its key on another one.

What if it doesn't run on my PC?

Email support within 14 days of buying. I'll help get it working, and if it can't run on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, you get a full refund. Your purchase also includes every update to the major version you bought. The details are on Terms & refunds.
